A plethora of colourful bags at the 5th Encan des Vins de Sherbrooke

At the closing of the Sherbrooke wine auction, i.e., once those present had ample opportunity to taste the wine being auctioned off, place their bids and watch the hammer coming down, the victorious bidders were handed their much sought-out bottles in unique and colourful bags decorated by sick children from the CHU de Sherbrooke hospital centre.

“It’s a way for them to keep busy and to focus on something other than their illness. This initiative also offers them a way to connect with others and express themselves,” explained Jennifer St-Laurent, the CRCHUS mother-child research area coordinator who originally came up with this idea years ago and has been involved in the event’s organization for a couple of years. The paper bags used were provided by the Foundation of Stars and Jennifer St-Laurent collaborated with the heads of the various pediatrics departments to have them decorated by the budding young artists in their care. What great teamwork!

This event attested to a strong connection between donors and sick children in need, not to mention the generosity of those in attendance, with over $134,000 being raised for mother-child research.
